SEO Glossary — What these numbers mean
Impressions
How many times your page appeared in Google search results. Does NOT mean someone saw it — it counts even if they never scrolled down to your result. High impressions + low clicks = your title isn't compelling enough, or you're too far down the page.
Clicks
Someone actually tapped your link and left Google to visit your site. Clicking the same link twice in one session = 1 click. This is your real organic traffic number. More clicks = more real visitors = more ad revenue and affiliate conversions.
CTR (Click-Through Rate)
Clicks divided by impressions. If 100 people see your result and 3 click, CTR = 3%. Industry average is 2-5%. Below 2% at position 1-5 means your title tag needs rewriting. Above 5% means your title is working well.
Position
Where your page appears in search results, averaged across all queries. Position 1 = top of page 1. Position 10 = bottom of page 1. Position 11+ = page 2 or worse. Most clicks happen at positions 1-3. Getting from position 12 to position 8 can 5x your traffic.
Impressions vs Clicks
Impressions = Google showed you. Clicks = someone visited. The gap between them is your opportunity. A page with 500 impressions and 2 clicks has massive potential — it's already ranking, it just needs a better title or higher position to convert those eyeballs into visitors.
Conversions
When a visitor takes a desired action — clicking an affiliate link, signing up for an email list, using a tool, or booking a service. GSC doesn't track conversions directly. Your conversion rate depends on how well your content matches search intent and how strong your CTAs are.
